Changi to host 1st APTRA Airport forum

APTRA is stepping up its service to airports in the Asia Pacific region by launching a series of Airport Forums and a dedicated online Resource Centre.

The first APTRA Airports Forum will be kindly hosted by Changi Airport Group on the afternoon of Sunday 7 May, just before the opening of the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference.

The objective of this first meeting will be to calibrate the service offered to airports by APTRA and to start the networking and data-sharing process. Cocktails after the seminar are being sponsored by DFS and Edrington.

Future editions of the Airport Forums will be timed to coincide with existing industry events and will aim to give airport executives the chance to gain insights to current trends and regulatory issues, and to exchange ideas with their counterparts running airports across the region.

The Resource Centre will be an airport access-only section of the APTRA website that contains brand and retailer data, marketing activities, retail executions and research reports which will help landlords to benchmark and improve the way they operate travel retail in their airport. The APTRA Airports Resource Centre is due to go live later this year and, in time, APTRA intends to supplement the information available with airport-specific research reports.

Chinese consumer insights reports published 


All three reports on travelers from Chinese Tier 1, 2 & 3 cities have now been published on the APTRA website. The Tier 2 & 3 city reports were presented at the TFWA China’s Century Conference in Guangzhou in a session presented by m1nd-set CEO & Owner, Peter Mohn. The other reports scheduled for 2017 on Korean, Japanese and Indian shopper behaviour in duty free and travel retail will be released over the course of the year.

APTRA KPMG Insights Seminar registration opens

Wednesday 10 May from 7am – 9am in Room 3111, Level 3, of the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre.


After a brief introduction and welcome by APTRA, the Association’s research partner m1nd-set will present the latest insights commissioned on Asia Pacific travellers, including Chinese Tier 1 & Tier 2 & 3 city shoppers as well as travelling consumers from other markets around Asia Pacific surveyed for the first time for APTRA: Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines, Australia & New Zealand.

In the second part, APTRA’s Insights Seminar partner KPMG will present the latest insights from their ongoing Global Connected Consumer research into technology innovations in the retail sector and what the future consumer will expect from their retail journey.

The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) is planning a busy week at TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore in May with its first Airports Forum, the fourth APTRA KPMG Insights Seminar, a presentation to Conference delegates, the AGM and a series of meetings with airports, brands and retailers.

Even before the show opens, on Sunday 7th May, airport executives from across Asia Pacific will convene for the inaugural APTRA Airports Forum.

This private meeting, which will be open to airport executives, is intended to give participants a chance to discuss travel retail best practice with their peers.

The agenda will include research conducted by m1nd-set specifically for airports in the region plus insights to market trends and topical advocacy issues. Attendees will also discuss how the APTRA service to airports should be enhanced in order to set priorities for the coming year and for future Airport Forums.

In his presentation to the Conference plenary on Monday 8th May, Jaya Singh, President APTRA, will update delegates on the current activities of the Association, including the enhanced service to airports, selected advocacy developments, the evolution of the Responsible Retail Training Programme, and the 2017 research programme.

Following the successful 2016 series, the first APTRA KPMG Insights Seminar of 2017 will be staged on Wednesday 10th May (7.30-9.00am) in Room 3111, Level 3 Marina Bay Sands Exhibition Centre.

Research partner m1nd-set will also reveal findings from the 2017 studies into consumer behaviour in China, Japan, Korea and India, as well as highlights from the 2016 series which included reports on Australia & New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and The Philippines.

APTRA members are invited to attend their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 10th May (4.30-6.00pm) also in room 3111 MBS level 3.
