Facts on the Philippines in the latest consumer insights report – sponsored by Distell & Ian MacLeod

The Philippines is known to have the world’s largest expat population. This giant travelling workforce of ten million people, known as Overseas Contract Workers or Balikbayans in Filipino, invariably travel back home once every year or two years, a phenomenon which has a positive impact on the national economy. The country’s duty free business is very much driven by this returning passenger segment, as well as by the inbound tourism sector – the country receives around 5 million inbound tourists each year. In this month’s shopper report m1nd-set reveals its B1S platform data including air traffic forecast and macro-economic data in addition to the shopper behavior insights. The report reveals that Filipino travelers are not only regular visitors to the duty free shops but also have a strong tendency to plan their purchases in advance. Industry leaders line up for 2017 China’s Century Conference

China’s Century Conference
The third TFWA China’s Century Conference (7-9 March in Guangzhou) is taking shape with a line-up of key stakeholders taking part. The conference, which will examine the current state and future direction of duty free and travel retail’s most influential market, will feature presentations from leading retailers such as DFS, Lagardère, HNA, Starboard Cruise Services as well as various Chinese airports, including the official host Guangzhou Baiyun.

The programme, to be published shortly on, will explore the latest infrastructure developments and retail opportunities in China, while also charting Chinese consumer preferences as they develop. The recent rise of off-airport and downtown stores has highlighted the potential outside the aviation sector, too. Here, the Conference will address two new topics increasingly relevant to those targeting Chinese travellers. Asia’s cruise industry goes from strength to strength, and Starboard Cruise Services, a major player in this channel with a regional base in Hong Kong, will offer delegates its perspective on a market rapidly gaining momentum. And as a world leader in high-speed rail, China boasts an extensive network with over 20,000 km of track linking major cities and tourist destinations.

Held at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in Guangzhou, the third TFWA China’s Century Conference, produced in partnership with APTRA, will provide a unique and incisive assessment of present and future trends in this crucial market.
